I went to one of these places exactly once, when I went to visit my Denver friend shortly after my divorce from my first wife. He thought it would cheer me up. It didn't. We started out in a room where you drink expensive drinks while come and sit on your lap. I'm an awkward guy who doesn't really know how you're supposed to interact with a mostly naked woman you don't know sitting on your lap, so I said, "So ... how did you get into this line of work?" She replied with the saddest story I've ever heard that involved a divorce and losing a family farm in Nebraska.
