Liberation Station (bus station), St. Helier - 6 Aug 2019 (P1030700)
Tuesday 6 August 2019 – The Liberation bus station in St. Helier stands on the ground floor beneath a low rise apartment block. Buses load at saw tooth loading bays devoid of natural light except when the sliding door between the passenger waiting area and the bus is open. The door and its adjoining panels are covered with some form of advertising so it is not until the driver opens the sliding door that passengers are aware that their bus is present on stand. Behind the camera the passenger waiting area faces directly on to the street.

In this view the sliding door giving access to the bus on Stand B features an advert for the Botanic Gardens served by service 1a which departs from this stand. The advert extends to two static panels to its right.

The big bus reveal...that's a strange system?

I have seen closely similar set ups to this before although I have to say I wasn’t overly struck by this one.

I suppose even if it was clear glass there wouldn’t be much to see for the average member of the pubic but to know if your bus is present would be useful. I was just able to squint through the 2mm gap between the vinyl covering and the window frame to try to detect a bus presence!

When sat inside a bus the low roof of the building made the surroundings feel very dark and uninviting.

Having said that the redeeming feature was that by turning to face the other way I could see through the doors that lined the street.
