Olof Strandberg (1816-1882); Swedish tenor.
In 1841 he made his debut at the Royal Opera Stockholm as Max in "Der Freischütz". His most memorable roles were Fra Diavolo, Tamino in "Die Zauberflöte", Masaniello in "La Muette de Portici", Robert le Diable, Stradella, Ernani, Georges in "La Dame Blanche", Edgardo in "Lucia di Lammermoor", Raoul in "Les Huguenots" , Jean de Leyde in "Le Prophète". Huon in "Oberon" and Arnold in "Guillaume Tell". He possessed an excellent tenor voice but his dramatic talent and appearance were not so impressive. For that reason he achieved his greatest successes at concerts and not on the opera stage. He retired in 1869. After his retirement he was employee of the Swedish "Official Gazette", where his brother was editor. He held this function until his death in 1882.
Strandberg was a member of the Royal Academy of Music since 1855. He was the father of the soprano Anna Maria Strandberg (1852-1933) and the tenor Max Strandberg (1854-1939). He was also the father-in-law of opera singer Maria Wilhelmina Strandberg.
