All aboard, for the Rocky Mountaineer

All aboard, for the Rocky Mountaineer
It’s May 2016 and we are taking a two day train journey on one of the world’s most luxurious trains. Traveling from Jasper in Alberta/Canada to the railway town of Kamploops for an overnight stay and then on to Vancouver taking one of the awarded world’s best journeys.
This shot is taken on our second day nearing Vancouver following the Fraser River amongst others. The Pip gives us a glimpse of the train just about to leave Jasper. Each carriage was loaded in strict turn order and so the red carpet was transferred to each entrance in turn too. The internal view is of the Silver Leaf carriage whereas the Gold leaf was yet more luxurious.

PS. ask yourself, how did I manage to take this?

Enjoy full screen.

Great views of and from the train, Herb. I'll guess the (long) train is rounding a sharp bend.

I go with George, you are sitting somewhere in the back. A good looking exterior of that train!

It sure was Nick. Coupled with a bus tour of the Rockies and a week's cruise in Alaska. Holidays don't come much more adventurous than this.

What a great train ride! These observation carriages are ideal for watching the landscape but I found them (at least on the Bernina and Glacier Express) not quite as good for photography as you cannot open the windows.
Like others I guess that you walked to the rear of the train to catch the front in a bend.

Thanks Gudrun. Yes these carriages were great for observation, even when it was wet as it was on our first day. I would love to travel the Glacier Express too but I fear that that chance has now gone for us.

A super ride that I am sure you would have enjoyed too. As you surmised, we are at the back of a very long train, having been joined by the train from Banff to Vancouver. Our carriage near the back of the train, I presume like most, had a small back section, only about a metre wide that one could stand in and that had down sliding windows to the outside on both sides enabling me to hold my camera out of the window on this curve, Another few hours on here at this point to Vancouver

Best Wishes. Herb

I love the striped train on the bend, Herb. I am sure the trip was spectacularly panoramic.

A rather special trip on this train. I know that there are others that offer similar comfort and scenic beauty in the Indian sub-continent too.
