She's come through the op okay.....
- 20 commentsJust a quickie to say that I heard from Mandi this afternoon. She's had the operation but it wasn't as bad as she'd feared. They had to take some intestines out too, but nothing near the colon and no lymph nodes touched. She's had the whole lot taken away and hopefully all the cancer was inside. Apparently they'd kept her in the Intensive Care ward all day until this afternoon. She was in a wheelchair and sitting outside with Dogan having a coffee and a cigarette!!!!! She can't have any food as…

My daughter would like your opinions.....
- 19 commentsMandi was surprised when I told her that quite a few people loved her photos and she asked if you would give your opinions on some of her work. She's taking her photos with her phone and if the response here is positive, she will probably go out and buy herself a decent camera. She says that living in Turkey has certainly encouraged her to take photos, probably because I always ask her to take pictures of where she goes, so that she doesn't seem so far away from me. I miss her terribly, but i…

Oh no not again!!!!!!!
- 19 commentsI think I told you all about how my neighbours had paid for someone to come and put up spikes to deter the seagulls from nesting on my roof inbetween my chimneys. Well, I hope they ask for their money back because the seagulls have interwoven their nest inbetween the spikes and have had chicks!!!!!! For some unaccountable reason, seagulls are a protected species and so we can't move them physically, so we have to persuade them to leave. Considering how many seagulls there are in the UK, I cer…

Mandi's coming home next week!!! Yay
- 18 commentsJust a quickie - had a lovely message from Mandi saying that she's booked a flight for Wednesday, landing in Gatwick at 4pm. She'll get a bus to Exeter and a friend of hers will pick her up from the bus station there and bring her home!! I can hardly believe it, because I haven't seen her (except on Messenger/Skype) since last year - I think it's almost 13 months. I do so miss her. Besides she's going to sort out my tablet, because somehow the storage space has really started to get very smal…

My daughter in Turkey.....
- 18 commentsI've had lots of enquiries regarding my daughter who lives in Turkey, about how she and her husband are since the earthquakes, so I thought I'd write a quick article to tell you all how things are. When I heard about the earthquake I was obviously very worried. I immediately called my daughter to see if she had been affected too. As she's around 1,000 kms away, she was fine. She's on a different fault line too. The only problem was that Dogan's family lives over that part of Turkey. They…

At last we'll be mobile for the next week!!!
- 18 commentsAt long last - we will be mobile for the rest of the week. We've been stuck in the home, well apart from the time Mandi walked down to the town, but the walk back up the hill nearly knocked her out!!! It's been a lousy week, weather-wise because it's gone really cold and it's rained at least for some of the days, but it always clears up in the evening, with lovely clear skies and therefore it's damn cold with the risk of frost. So today we went to hire a car. I had to ask my neighbours agai…

Fred, the seagull chick, has come down at last.
- 18 commentsWell the roof of my back porch is disgusting with all the poop that Fred, the seagull chick, has done and then walked across!!!! So hopefully we'll get some rain which will help it dissolve and then eventually we can wash it off!!! I can always hope!!! This afternoon, after hearing the parents of Fred, cawing at him, and then bringing down food for him, I heard him do his high pitched scream. It sounded very loud, and so I went out to the kitchen, I'd left the back door open for some through…

Part 2 of the on-going saga !!!!
- 18 commentsAre you ready for this? I suggest you have a cup of coffee and be in a comfy chair while you read this - if you don't think you can wade through a lot of drivel - then you are excused!!!!! Where was I? - Oh yes - I'd had an ice-cream then we went back to Mandi's house to finalise the packing and to go to the airport. As I walked up the driveway, I was welcomed by the garden cats - I miss them very much - they were so sweet and loving. Well after a quick change of clothes and finishing pack…

Mandi is coming over!!!
- 17 commentsI am getting so excited, my daughter, Mandi, who I haven't see in person for almost 3 years is at last coming over to see me.!!!! I can hardly believe it. She feels the same and says that she can't wait to have a "mummy" hug!!!! The last time I saw her was when I came back from Turkey on 20th June 2019!!!! I honestly don't know how I would have managed without this new technology. I can see and speak to her anytime I want to, and we have talked at least 3 times a week, sometimes more. If I ha…

You'd think I'd know better!!!
- 17 commentsHiya, I've not written a blog for a while, because to be honest - not a lot has happened here - it's that time of year when you want to be out but the weather gods have decided that they're going to have fun and stop you from venturing out. Apart from that - my friend asked me if I'd take up his curtains for his new home. He's got some really lovely woven woollen curtains which weigh a ton!!!! So it's one thing to say "No problem - of course I'll take them up!" but then I realised that they were…

Oooh I've saved myself lots of money!!!!
- 17 commentsWell maybe I'm being a tad over excited, but for years now I've just kept being with the same insurance company for house and contents. I suppose it was because I was being lazy, in that I kept forgetting to seek out cheaper options. Well this morning I had a couple of letters, one was from another company saying they had taken over my old insurance company (which is a well known and trusted company) and the other one was from my insurance company informing me of next year's cost for the hous…

She's here!!!!
- 16 commentsWell Mandi arrived last night or should I say early this morning?!!! It was close on 5am by the time she came in. My neighbours had been brilliant and gone to pick her up from the airport, which is just over 100 miles away, and her plane didn't land until just after 2am!!! I can't thank them enough for going for her, and bringing her safely to me. Well we both had a lie-in and had only been up a couple of hours when Emily arrived!! Those two got on so well and soon we were all chatting and laugh…

I'm back home!!!!!
- 16 commentsHi folks, I'm back home at last!!!!! The doctors finally decided on a diagnosis - I have COPD with borderline diabetes, and low iron. They say my heart failure is still a possibility but were so pleased with how I progressed that that diagnosis is put on hold, providing I do as I'm told!!!! The only reason they allowed me home early was because Mandi is still here. She goes back to Turkey on Thursday however, and the Social care package might kick in - there again - it may not!!! Tomorrow the…

The summer is still trying to hang in there!!!
- 16 commentsWell it's half way through September and last week it was raining and it was cold, but Summer doesn't seem to want to leave us, she's holding on for grim death, because yesterday and today has been lovely and sunny. Apparently the hurricane from America has decided to come across the Atlantic and visit us but we'd rather it didn't. There isn't any wind to speak of at the moment, so hopefully it's moved away. We've seen the damage it's done over there so we certainly don't want that kind of destr…

I ventured out for a sunset......
- 16 commentsIt seems ages since I last ventured out for a sunset, but last night I thought - I'm off!!! As I drove towards Westward Ho! I was trying to work out the best place to be able to see the sun go down over the horizon and the nearer I got to Westward Ho! I realised that I was going to have to go over to the Burrows, because the sun had moved its tradjectory and now was much further to the east. Now that shows you how long it's been since I went down there for a sunset. Anyway I thought - aha -…

Waaahay - we can upload our pictures at last!!!!
- 16 commentsNow I've not been outside, apart from my one trip to Westward Ho! in September, for a year now, so I've kept myself busy by making pendants. Some I've given away for Christmas, but others I've kept here. I am thoroughly enjoying myself and I have decided to sell the ones left over on e-bay, but not until I stop getting the urge to make them. Otherwise it becomes a job and not for pleasure. I do like these with the metal outline. I need to try and get rid of those air bubb…

A little visitor doing strange things!!!!
- 16 commentsWell this afternoon I was sitting on my couch, doing some more sewing when a movement outside caught my eye. I realised that a squirrel was out in my garden - now this is quite a rare treat so I watched it for all of 20 seconds when it shot off into the undergrowth!! Oh well, at least it was a little surprise and a very pleasant one at that. I had no idea that a squirrel was around these parts. Pippin came over onto my table to get some strokes, when he suddenly stiffened and stared out the w…

I've lost my wonderful Pippin....
- 16 commentsLast week I noticed Pippin was behaving strangely - not able to jump up and his back legs were a bit "odd". I felt along his spine and around his back legs, but he didn't object nor flinch and he purred when I stroked him. Well over the week, he lost the use of his back legs completely. He would walk on his two front legs and drag his back legs etc behind him. Now he wasn't a small cat so there was a lot of body to drag around. I realised that there was something really wrong with him by this…

We went for a ride....
- 16 commentsYesterday Mandi and I went for a ride with the intention of catching a sunset at Turgetries, which is a village on the other side of the promontory to Yashi, where she lives. Well the sunset became a bit wishy washy as you can see... Turgetries is surrounded by an incredible amount of small islands, all uninhabited, and it faces west, so sun setting behind islands does make for superb sunsets. There is a lovely long promenade which enables pedestrians, disabled bikes etc, walkers…

Sorry I've been lax in writing here.....
- 16 commentsHiya folks, I've just realised how lax I've been in writing my blogs. To be honest, I just haven't had much spare time, yet I wonder what I've been doing to take up so much time!!!! For the last few weeks I've had a visitor. An old friend of my brother has been coming down here even after my brother died, as he has so many friends living here. He also plays the banjo and guitar and plays in many pubs etc on their open mike sessions. So he's out every night, and in the daytime, he's usually ou…
