  • It wasn't a Portugese Man of War jellyfish........

    Barrel Jellyfish
Thanks to Frank who asked me if the jellyfish I saw today wasn't a Moon Jellyfish and of course I had to go and Google that to check - but apparently it wasn't, but........... He pointed me in the right direction - I found out exactly what it was I saw on the beach today ......... It's a barrel Jellyfish and it's thankfully non-poisonous, to us humans anyway. There was a huge shoal of them spotted just down the coast back in July/August. The warm sea temperatures and the sunny days la…

Some bug loves the leaf of the nasturtium
I was sitting outside this afternoon to get some fresh air, it was warmish but not warm enough to stay outside for long. No sun though - whereas some of the UK has had loads.... Anyway while we were sitting out there - I took some pictures of new flowers which have come up - I couldn't just sit there without my camera now could I? I noticed a strange pattern on one of the nasturtium leaves ............... It was only when I'd enlarged it on the screen did I realise that there were bugs…

    A large jellyfish beached
Hiya folks, well I haven't really done much which is why I haven't blogged recently. We just go to the beach every day and so the photos are of the same place. Okay there are many dogs playing and people walking up and down the beach, but I've already done lots of pictures of them. So imagine my delight when I discovered a beached jellyfish.... poor thing really, but it meant I had something different to photograph - sad isn't it? It was a big one too - about 18inches wide along the he…

    My dark purple lilacs
Went out into the strong wind today to take pictures of the lilac trees which have started to come out. I am so lucky that whoever planted the trees oh so many many years ago - certainly before we moved in here in 1959 - they planted alternate colours. So I have white lilacs, then dark purple, then pale lilac, then white and so on. The paler lilac is all over the place, the white and dark purple are coming up in other places too now, so I'm getting a lovely splash of colour...... This is…

The damn sticky weed is everywhere - pulled loads out
Well I decided to go and look to see if I could find out if any more new growth is showing in the garden - honestly I went out there only a couple of days ago and I didn't see the sticky weed that assaulted my eyes when I went into the driveway today. There is loads and loads of it - climbing up over the log stores, strangling the plants, creeping along the gravel - it's horrendous. I swear I could almost see it growing. It comes out easily enough, but it sticks to anything and everything.......…

I just thought that you lot should see what faggots [meatballs to you lot over the pond] look like. The name implies something yucky but served with mashed potatoes and mushy peas - or even swede/carrot mix they are gorgeous............ See what I mean?

    Lone rowan berry
Hiya folks, well today has been very busy for me. After the usual shower, this time I had to do my hair etc for a change as I was being taken out for lunch. Yvonne collected me at 12.30pm and we had to dodge the raindrops which were falling quite heavily. On the way past the coal bunker I noticed this tiny rowan berry............ I then saw a bunch of semi-squashed berries and they looked so bright against the dark brown wet surface that I just had to take a picture of them...........…

    Shells in the sea
As some of you know - my daughter, Mandi, is here with me until the middle of August which is fantastic. She's been spoiling me by cooking my meals, washing up and cleaning etc. It's amazing. When Emily comes on Tuesday, I'm going to ask her if she'll take Mandi shopping. So I have almost 4 weeks of her being here and then - GUESS WHAT....................................!! I'm going back to Turkey with her for just over 4 weeks!!! I'm so proud of her travelling here all alone, considering…

New shape gives a great look
Hello folks, well it's been just over a week since I last wrote to you all. I've been making new resin jewellry, as I'd got myself some new moulds. I did this because I needed to take a break from all the news about Turkey. I do have Sky tv and so I've been watching TRT World which is the Turkish News but in English!!! I have been glued to it some days because I was staggered at how many people were still being brought out alive, even after 10 days since the earthquakes. How has that been possib…

Thank you so so much folks for your very kind wishes today. I honestly swear that these birthdays come round twice a year now!!! It's been a lovely quiet day, well it was until my handyman came round to see how I was, and when he found out it was my birthday - I got a big hug!! That's all folks - honestly. So when he left I got back to sewing my quilt - I'm getting into it so much, though I've had to buy more material because I wasn't too keen on some of the shades I had - w…

    The exchanging of rings
There's not a lot going on in my life at the moment - the thrill of my daughter getting married, having Christmas with my son's soon to be in-laws and having a mildish start to the New Year has sort of left me hanging at the moment!!! I've started on a new quilt - this time for me - as you already know, I've been doing about 5 or 6 hours a day sewing (with a machine!) and it's coming on in leaps and bounds. I'm getting quite excited really - how sad is that? I like the colours and I think t…

My neighbour has managed to have some really good results from her gardening prowess. She and her husband are out in their garden nearly every day if possible and I can only applaud their achievements. Here are some of their gorgeous flowers.............. A lovely passion flower that is showing off it's glory climbing around their porch.......... Now their fuschias are flowering and I just love this one................ I love this two toned one too................. Man…

    Little Zilli who adopted us
When we went to Turkey last year, a stray brindle dog sort of `"adopted" us and followed us everywhere we went. We asked Dogan if she had a name and he laughed and said that it was probably Zilli. When asked what Zilli meant - he explained it meant a girl who reallly likes boys!!! So I assume it means "Slapper"!!! When Mandi went back Zilli really made a fuss of her and so she was her constant companion. Now you can hardly not want her around you and I'm not a dog lover of sorts. Well I m…

Okay folks, I thought I'd better let you lot know that I won't be on here til Monday night!!! I am going to stay with my daughter for the weekend and on the Sunday my son (he who is now going to be called FOMI "figment of my imagination"!!) and his partner are coming up to see me. I am coming back home on Monday. It's the free bus pass which will mean that I can travel to see them for free (as Mickey says - flashing the pass!) which helps me visit her. Okay it's a long trip - well it's onl…

Thought that would get your attention!!!!!!!!!! LOL Ron came to put up my curtain pole and I'd got all the various items I thought he'd need, all set up for him. The paintbrush and the paint, cos I thought the baton would need painting. Some "no-nails" adhesive to make sure it sticks to the wall, the step-ladder all ready for him. He set about sorting it all out and I came downstairs to let him get on with it. A couple of hours later and he was downstairs saying that it was all finished. H…

Couldn't believe it but it was sunny again today!!!!!!!!!!!! I had to do a wash, and so I thought I'd see if I could get it dry by putting it on the line. When I took it out of the machine, somehow I'd left a tissue in a pocket!!!!!!!!!! You can guess what the clothes looked like - covered in confetti!!!!!!!!!! Well it's been so long since I last dried my washing outside - at least 6 months or so. So I gingerly went out and pegged the washing on the line - hoping against hope no-one would vis…
