The Castle of Alzenau

The Castle of Alzenau
Die Burg in Alzenau wurde zwischen 1395 und 1399 im spätgotischen Stil erbaut. Sie war Amtssitz des Kurfürsten von Mainz. 1803 fiel die Burg an Hessen-Darmstadt; im Zuge eines Gebietsaustauschs wurde sie 1816 Bayern zugeschlagen und wurde Sitz des Königlich-Bayerischen Amtsgerichts. Auch heute beherbergt sie noch das Amtsgericht; allerdings als Zweigstelle des AG Aschaffenburg. In den Jahren 1974/75 gab es ausgiebige Renovierungsarbeiten. Genutzt wird die Burg heute für kulturelle Veranstaltungen; einen gewissen Bekanntheitsgrad haben dabei die Alzenauer Burgfestspiele und die Fränkischen Musiktage erreicht.
