iPhone picture by my fire fighting husband.

iPhone picture by my fire fighting husband.
My husband is fire fighting on Kangaroo Island. He found this burned koala today and organised its rescue. It is believed that 30,000 koalas have died on Kangaroo Island....among untold numbers of other native animals. The rain which is in some areas of Australia has not reached many where fires are burning.

Gudrun, Leo W, ColRam, Erhard Bernstein and 40 other people have particularly liked this photo

So sad, I hope it survives! Apart from people having lost their homes or even lives, it really breaks my heart to hear of all those killed animals and I am happy for every single one that is rescued by such brave persons like your husband and all those animal carers!
I have been to Kangaroo Island in 2009 and I remember a ranger already predicting a fire catastrophy then because of the dense dry shrubbery all over the island.

As an ex fire fighter I can go a little way in understanding what your hero husband has gone through but it should always be remembered that all the fire fighters have partners who have to share the traumas and weariness of extraordinary events like you have all just suffered.
I hope that this little bear recovers Diana.

Thank you, Diana, for sharing this. As brutally sad as it is, it helps give voice to the apocalyptic number of animals who have lost their lives in this appalling environmental disaster. They only have us to speak for them and to try to make people see what our environmentally insensitive policies are doing to the Earth and how urgent it is that we change course.
I hope this poor koala can recover, it would give us all, as well as the brave firefighters who rescued it, a bit of hope in the face of terrible destruction.

Aw, it is terrible to see animals injured and hurting in this way, especially as it was all brought on by man. I hope your husband (one of the Aussie hero's of the day) is coping OK. Must be heart rendering to see these sights.

Keep safe. Herb

It brings home the full horror of of the fate of so many animals in the tragedy of the recent bush fires Diana. Your husband and his colleagues must have seen many similar sights but continue their efforts to defeat the fires, the world can only admires such courage.

Stay safe all, Doug

Delight to hear that your husband found and rescued the Koala. It is estimated that up to a billion animals have died so far due the fires plaguing Australia. So this is really sad news. Hugs to you and husband. Regards Tess

Such a tragedy. We have read about the extreme temperatures, the raging firestorm, the flash floods, the dust storms and the deaths of many many animals.

I've been following this disaster on our news...............and feel so sorry for those who have died or been injured and for those who have lost their homes and livelihood. Just as upsetting is the huge effect on wildlife, as demonstrated by this image.

You must be immensely proud of your husband and the amazing work he and his colleagues have been doing and continue to be so. I hope that you and yours are safe and well and continue to be so.

Take care :-)
