Preservation

Preservation
Though in a sorry state, this building survived the Christchurch earthquakes. Shipping containers are stacked this way in front of a number of buildings, presumably to preserve the facades while also minimising risk in the streets should another quake occur. It seems (see note, copied from a shop window) there is an interesting term for this kind of damage.

Explored.

An image which prompts dialogue, George!
If a quake can destroy thousands of buildings, it sure can topple a container, so I I understand why the no parking cones are there. Too prevent people getting munted!

I think it's likely that they have weighted the lower containers to give greater stability too, Neil.

This is very interesting to see. I wonder if they will preserve the facades and rebuild behind them.

I suspect that is probably the intention, Jean.

Munted... going to add THAT to my vocabulary !!!

Yes... earthquakes can destroy bricks and mortar.. and indeed shipping containers.. but they CANNOT.. and WILL NOT destroy the will and the resolution and the humour of THE PEOPLE !
