Looks like there was nothing else to follow George! A belated HFF as I completely missed Friday.

We used to have some at a nearby animal park and once or twice I found feathers. Very beautiful.

Impressive birds. I'll bet they could do a number on you if they got irritated!

Yes, they're pretty imposing and I wouldn't want one to take a peck at me!

I'd imagine they could deliver quite a kick with those clawed feet!

Fortunately they're fairly docile in normal circumstances. Probably different if they feel threatened and they could indeed give a nasty kick then.

Interesting shot. I didn´t see so many of these animals on all my visits in German zoos!

Thanks, Rainer. We actually saw a great many more than this on our travels. :)

Beautiful animals and a fine shot! I assume these are wild, but are Emus also domesticated for meat or other purposes? Sorry for my ignorance on the subject. Thanks for your visit and kind words on my wife's great image!

tiabunna club has replied to Puzzler4879
These were indeed wild, but I understand that an industry has developed for them in recent years: meat, leather and eggs (the shells are dark green and good for engraving).

You have such interesting animals and plants in Australia. There is an Ostrich farm in Luxembourg and they make good business with the meat. Ostriches look quite similar to Emus.

tiabunna club has replied to Gerda
Thank you, Gerda. Yes, I suspect that emus and ostriches have some common links way back when Africa and Australia were linked in Gondwana (also birds in New Zealand).
