Pirie Fences

Pirie Fences
Port Pirie is an industrial country town in South Australia, built around a smelter. Extensive use has been made of metal sheeting for both buildings and fences. Other earlier images from Port Pirie in the notes. HFF!

Christine.,, Brian, yokopakumayoko Francesco, Swetlana Hasenjäger and 3 other people have particularly liked this photo

Splendid shots! The night one is my favourite. I wonder whether the axing of the carbon tax will have any impact on Port Pirie. I imagine that the smelter is finding it tough to compete with imports.

Thanks, Rachel. As far as I could tell, the carbon charge made no real difference there. Interestingly, the smelter now is overseas owned and largely processes imported ores.

That's neat, George, and a very different kind of fence and photo!

tiabunna has replied to Joan+
Thank you, Joan. Yes, I'd think this style would be almost unique to this area, though metal fencing is fairly common in Australia.

It's interesting to see what is used for fencing material in different parts of the world.
