Testing Explore... Trying to find out how soon new upload possibly replaces my previous popular post on Explore.

Results: New image becomes moderated and replace one's previous image on Explore approximately in 24 hours. However, if few days old image is extremely popular compared to new post, it may take a little longer.

My previously "Explored" is this: www.ipernity.com/doc/serola/49130636

So, assuming I get at least few views, and comments, this one may take the place from that previous one.

Moreover, if at some point I do not have any pictures on Explore, then maybe it is because this one is waiting for moderation. Read more about the topic here:

Recommendation/suggestion: Because moderation for Explore is probably usually done when it is early morning in Europe, the best time to upload new images is around early evening. Then if images manage to get enough faves, views and comments to become as a new "Explore candidate", the new image then also becomes published and viewed on Explore next morning.

Yes, I always try to upload in the evening here, Midwest USA, for early morning acceptance in Europe time. Nice black and white Sami. Like the border effect.

The border is made on PicMonkey. First one of "Sketchedy" borders, and then image rotated on both sides to add some one sided caption space on "Simple Edge".

I like to use that PicMonkey editor to add some final touch on images.

Yes, I love PickMonkey. Well worth the price of Club membership, and you don't have the monthly fees with Adobe producs (since I shoot all JPG files anyways).

Is there also an effect by the numbers of groups you submit to? That's the way it was on Flickr.

I think not. I am not sure. BUT, sharing on many groups may lure more people to visit, comment and like ;-)

Based on my experience, usually only group administrators bother to view images in group context. But if you share your image on 100 groups, and maybe even 30 different group administrators like what they see, then you do get plenty of popularity points.

Sami, submitting to a number of groups definitely has no effect on the chances of success of getting to "Explore" with a photo as quickly as possible, and should not have it simply because of the still countless orphaned groups and groups with the same or similar topics.

And I'd like to say something for some perhaps unpleasant: Why all this effort, this search for the greatest possible popularity? Isn't life more than a short-lived success? Please, relax and don't let any algorithms dominate your lives - no matter what kind.

* ઇઉ *, I hope these explorations of mine have helped to do exactly that: Assure people that Explore is impartial enough, and not worth to become used for personal gain. So, hopefully in a long run people see that Explore is nothing but an attempt to represent what the whole ipernity community is about.

Personally I have not been very interested if my pictures are there on Explore. But I also do not shame to admit that I have sometimes felt proud if some pictures of mine have appeared there, images where I have really put effort on. And equally I have felt such pride on behalf of others.

Now that people who have asked Explore explained, hopefully have learned to understand how. The next step would/could be to make people to accept Explore as a valid source to become interested on who are the people around here, and what are they interested on.

My very personal suggestion is to have a look on Explore pages 10-18. Most likely those who appear on pages 1-5 are already contacts with each other. So, in order to maybe find something and someone new, it is often useful to browse around a little.

I also once again remembered and rediscovered this: www.ipernity.com/explore/group

Groups are still an essential part of ipernity, no matter what for example I have said about them. So, again, Explore at least gives exactly what it promises: A possibility to explore =)

On the first pages of "Explore" there are indeed mostly members with comparatively many contacts and corresponding resonance to their pictures. Beginning on pages 7 to 8 of "Explore/What's hot!" the interest of most people is noticeably and visibly diminished. And yet there are worth seeing contributions up to the last page. However, the resonance to invitations or group suggestions is comparatively low or even non-existent there.

Let's hope together for a change of the still widespread view on "Explore/What's hot!". Fortunately, some have already started.

Your closing words are excellent. :))

Well, you and others can, if you view, like and comment ;-)

But I can influence on what images of mine doesn't appear on Explore, no matter what =D
