Thank you Joe. I have to admit to putting my camera on auto to take this and I kind of wish I hadn't. There is a lot of 'noise' unfortunately.

Your camera has exposed well, as this a tricky scene to get right. I enlarged the photo, and I didn't see too much noise. I remember one of my photography tutors at college telling me, when you tackle a scene with a high dynamic range like this, you have to decide what is important to you. If it's the highlights, you expose for those, and let the shadows go dark. Conversely, if your subject is in the shadows, then expose there, and blow the highlights. I had to follow this rule at college, as I had to produce images straight from camera. No "photoshopping" was allowed. Submitting HDR images was a capital offence. LOL. When it came to grain, my tutor's mantra was, "Digital noise is ugly; photographic grain is beautiful".

I did despeckle it a few times Joe. That's good advice, thank you.

An impressive pair of gates somewhat strongly the colour works well, the view through the metal work gives a good stained glass effect. I hope you have a good weekend Rosalyn it didn't rain today just thick cloud and a cold wind

I liked the inner gates Peter, so poked the camera through the outer gate. It was getting late and the light wasn't good, but the gates are actually white! I hope you are enjoying the same sunshine as here today!

Contrary to popular myth, I think Canute ran away from the seashore when the tide started to come in, and ended up in Shaftesbury. ;-))) A rather modern looking gateway into the grounds.
