Bruton, Somerset.

Bruton, Somerset.
Looking out.

Sexey's Hospital in Bruton, Somerset, was built around 1630 as almshouses. The West Wing and chapel have been designated as a Grade I listed buildings. The East Wing and gateway are grade II listed. Hugh Sexey, was a local landowner. A school in the town is also named after him.

Looking in.

A nice pair of images Rosalyn, were you tempted to move the notice board !!! I find modern intrusions in old settings very annoying, did H&S really have to paint the steps yellow ? how did we survive in the past ( I've put the soapbox away !!!!!)

Thank you Peter. I wonder why they were allowed to paint yellow on the steps of a listed building! I could have taken a shot in front of the notice board but I took as reference for myself...and then quite liked the photo, so now it's on here ;-)) I would like to have a look around the chapel in the enclosure but the friend I was with is not really interested in that sort of thing, so next time...!!

I remember your earlier shots of Sexey's Hospital. With a name like that, it's hard to forget! :o)

We are so used to it but people not from around here usually have a giggle. My daughter went to Sexey's School 6th form and you won't believe this but one of the roads around the school is called Lusty Gardens! Glad you remembered anyway ;-))
