Worth getting arrested just to see inside. Seems to have been to good to have been a police station even in 1856.

I glad I didn't have to do that Maurice ;-) I actually live next door to what was the Police house in our village and I do remember it in the 1960's. Policemen used to live in tied houses next to their work back then.

Schitterende opname Rosa.
In 1856 reed de politie nog op een paard, maar ze hadden wel televisie!
Hartelijke groeten ....Frans.

And to think this kind of Victorian architecture was generally loathed not all that long ago!
Splendid place, shot and PiP!

Never loathed by me Andy. Architects could have done a better job in the 60's and 70's if they had taken more note of these buildings....but I guess that was the period that it was so out of fashion :(

There were some very 'Good Things' in the 60s.
Unfortunately you can't include 60s architecture!

Even the police had properly designed buildings then, many new ones are depressingly ugly. Wincanton is lucky in having such a well preserved town centre.

I agree Gudrun. The Police station in a town not far away from here was voted the ugliest building in Somerset! I am pleased to say that after 50 years it is going to be destroyed! We wait to see what it will be replaced with!!

Lovely old buildings, Rosa. They certainly have the feeling of authority.

It's that Victorian style that gives that impression I think John.

Hi Rosa,

The Victorians had style, and certainly had some ideas about justice.. Deported for life for stealing a sheep... None of this namby pamby social worker "Its not his fault, society has let him down... Let him go free and he won't mug any more old ladies!"
I like it!!

Best Wishes
Peter

Hi Peter,

They spent their money on buildings wisely and in most cases beautifully. Not sure I would want to bring Judge Jeffries back...but I know what you mean!

Best wishes, Rosa.

Thank you Adele. I was lucky enough to know people who lived in two of them a few years ago, so have seen inside, which is very interesting.
