Thanks so much. I love using shallow depth of field. And it was interesting to be back in my mom's furnace room again where this lives.

I remember scales like these. Lovely composition and focus with the light striking in just the right place,

I had just found this in my mom's furnace room when I saw the challenge. Great timing. I loved using this when I was little and didn't really care how much I weighed (those were the days), but got a kick out of checking my height. I'm glad you like the lighting, the low light in the room helped out.

A nice piece of mechanical history Laura well captured, by the way access is denied to the PIPs

Love the subtle color. Almost looked like a monochrome shot.

It looks pretty old.

Yes, quite old. I haven't dated it exactly, but it is at least 90 years old and could be up to 150 years old because the scale has Rutland, VT on it, and the company moved to Rutland in 1870.

My family is from Portland Oregon for 4 generations and there was a large home built in the 1880's and this could very well have come from that house. We have furniture that was in that house (we have photos to prove it). So it could be as old as 140 years old. Otherwise it would have been bought sometime around the 1920's. I still need to reseach this particular model to find a date.

Howe company was around until 1982.

i do love the old things that have managed to remain over time. and this one brings me personal childhood memories as well.

i can see you like close-ups! we have some macro photography groups you might enjoy. i don't know which ones are the most active, but you can search for them. one such group has challenges (monthly, i think), but you can also just go there to see the photos others have contributed and comment, like, or simply enjoy: www.ipernity.com/group/macrodreams

i'm glad this one please you! thank you.
