Thanks! My dad was a really good archtitect. Well known in our city. His largest house design recently sold. I got to tour it before the sale. It was amazing - but I think my mother's humble home that he designed and built is better. But I'm prejudiced... He does seem to have a lot of similarities to Rohe. Same influences, I bet.

I was so lucky to get to grow up in that house. I am still lucky to get to go there now to visit my mom! I really love my dad's architecture. It's modern but not stark. The interior is clean lined but warm and so connected to the outside.

The front door is purple, and there's a back outside wall that is red!

I asked my mom about that - the cheap fir wood they got to use for this fence way back then was quite fine with no knots, and so it lasts better than more expensive wood now.

Sadly I didn't get any of my dad's architectural genes, but I hope I got some of his visual design sense.

Yes, I didn't get any architectural genes either, but he encouraged artistic expression in us every chance he got since we were small and my brother did sort of follow in his footsteps by becoming a draftsman.
I think my brother would agree that neither of us got more than a distant, pallid shadow of his artistic genius, but I do treasure the art education I received simply by being around him and by joining the art projects he did with his students (he was not a full time architect; the actual regular income in our house came from his teaching art in high school).

Art and artists certainly enrich our lives!

Thank you for that nice compliment. I frequently come out that door, but not into it (going in the front door instead) - but once in a while I go this way and was happy to have lighting that made it work for me.

Lots of color on the outside of this house. Plenty of wood and hung art on the inside.

Yes, my mother does still live there. I was so lucky to be able to grow up there, and continue the luck in that I go see her there a couple of times every week. I feel grounded and comfortable there like no where else.

And yes, there is a slight overhang on the left side. The back deck is cantelivered, but the rest of the house is steady on the ground.

Well yes! It kind of is. But also city, Portland, Oregon. I was lucky to grow up in the woods. We almost never went camping because we were always kind of there. It's a very secluded neighborhood. You can't see her house on google earth - so it's a good place to hide *wink*.
