I was 7 years old when I stood in that same spot !

“Saint Mary’s Church in the hollow of the white hazel near the rapid whirlpool and the Church of Saint Tysilio of the red cave”.

And you survived it well, Pam. That must have been around the time you took a liking to tall hats, although yours have a point at the top ;-)

Haha- I remember that one! We got out there once and the time until the next train got very long... People in Cymru generally were very nice to us when they realized we could pronounce "ch";-) HFF, Neil!

Some parts of Wales have a reputation for being antagonistic towards visitors, but I think that is linked to places which have so-called holiday homes that are unoccupied for much of the year.
In my experience I have found Welsh villagers to be friendly, helpful and hospitable.

HFF to you too, Gudrun.

I doubt a longer one may exist world wide! It hardly fits in train's electronic boards... HFF!

Polyrus has replied to Dimas Sequeira club
I believe the railways abbreviate the name to Llanfair PG on the timetables and display boards.

Many thanks for your visit and HFF to you!

I believe that the worlds longest place name, at 168 letters, is Krung Thep Mahanakhon Amon Rattanakosin Mahinthara Ayuthaya Mahadilok Phop Noppharat Ratchathani Burirom Udomratchaniwet Mahasathan Amon Piman Awatan Sathit Sakkathattiya Witsanukam Prasit. Thank goodness it was later shortened to Bangkok!

When it was called that, I would never have gone there, in case someone asked me where I had been.

How kind of them to give a translation. We don't seem to go in for long names in Scotland but we do have a fair number of unpronounceable ones.
Polyrus has replied to Jean
Thank you for dropping by, Jean. Your unpronounceable names up there must be well hidden as I cannot recall being challenged by any place names in Scotland and I drove up to Inverness twice in the seventies using both coastal routes. With the Welsh, I do not even try to pronounce their place-names as I would fail miserably.

I'd be exhausted before I was halfway through that name!!
7 years ago. Edited 7 years ago.
Polyrus has replied to Eunice Perkins club
You would be wise not to try, Eunice. The name is abbreviated to Llanfair PG but even that is not straightforward as it is something like Khhlanvire PG. Enjoy your week.
