Very early in my railway modelling career! The craggy bits of landscape to the left of the scene were actually bits of concrete from the rockery in the garden. The tinplate station building, just below my hand, was at that point over 30years old, as it was part of my Dad's childhood Bing train set.

Phil - that looks so, so familiar.
I was using coal and coke for freight loads on a clockwork tin-plate "O" gauge "layout" only three or four years later ...

Getting hold of coal for today's layouts is more difficult and that's true for preserved railways as well!
Although the trains have been superceded by more detailed and more technically advanced models, the Airfix kits from which I built the other station building and the detached house, station lamp-posts, loading gauges and fencing, are still being sold and used today.
