Newhaven's Western Arm 6 8 2009

Newhaven's Western Arm 6 8 2009
This snap has been added to illustrate the size of this breakwater. In days gone by there were railway tracks along it. At low tide there is a lovely sandy beach, which, unfortunately the Port Authority will not allow access to, as they say that the structure is not safe. Local residents have had it officially declared a protected 'village green', but that seems to have changed nothing.

Fotofan, Paolo Tanino, Stephan Fey and 2 other people have particularly liked this photo

A well composed, clear image. It looks a grand place to visit.

It could be a lovely seaside resort if the issues around the Port Authority's decision to make the beach off-limits could be resolved. It is largely about the cost of renovating the breakwater. You can see in some of my other photos how cracked the surfaces are.

This shows its size, its extent better than the map. Thanks for posting Phil.

You can see the railway running along the Arm in one of the photos in this album, if your internet let's you!

Funny we should have been discussing the state of the breakwater --- www.ipernity.com/doc/philsutters/51743892
I doubt that it will be any more than some emergency patching, but I would love to be proved wrong.
