Sails of the South - HFF

Sails of the South - HFF
The Sails Of The South are located in the central reservation of the M275, the motorway leading to the city of Portsmouth, Hampshire. The sails are 43 metres high and mark the junction with the M27 motorway. The design is meant to symbolise the three directions of the motorway intersection as well as recognising Portsmouth's maritime activities. The sails are normally illuminated at night.

Best viewed large, on black.

Happy Fence Friday everyone. Thanks for all your visits, comments and stars over the past week.

I hope you all have an enjoyable weekend............but stay safe!

The biggest sail I've seen ever, as an old sailor, is this one from Dubai:

Thanks Gudrun..........glad you like it. I doubt it will ever rival the Angel of the North or much else to be honest. The idea was good, but the location is ridiculous. You can't get much nearer to it than where I'm standing and you can't really look at it whilst you're driving at 70mph on the motorway!

It's a beautiful monument. The light striking each sail from a different angle is very effective. Must look lovely lit up at night.

Die Segel sehen sehr dekorativ aus, aber ich bin mir sicher, dass sie an einem Segelschiff nicht funktionieren würden.

What a nice selection for HFF! Very interesting artwork and it's nice looking too. Thank you for telling us the history of why it's there, I always enjoy learning why something is placed here or there. :)

It must look beautiful lit up at night Keith. What else would it be for a famous sea port with a great naval history. Beautifully captured and good information.

To be honest, I've only ever seen it at night through a car windscreen...........and on the motorway you don't really have time to look at it. I've seen photos though and it is rather attractive.

Glad you like it and thanks for dropping in.

Etonnant. On c croirait voir un véhicule à voile sur l'autoroute. Qui sait ? peut être une image d'avenir
