Obelisk in Oilseed Rape Field (PiP)

Obelisk in Oilseed Rape Field (PiP)
This obelisk stands in private property at the edge of the grounds of Bicton Park Gardens Devon. It was built in 1747 by Henry Rolle, 1st Baron Rolle (1708–1750) as a visual attraction for the gardens. I was only able to get this shot from a nearby road by scrambling up an embankment and shooting over the fence. It provided a point of interest in the field of oilseed rape. I could have done with some clouds too, but you can't have everything :-)

I hope to have caught up with everyone by this evening...........but I have family coming to stay with us on Wednesday for a few days, so I'll probably end up even further behind by the end of the weekend!

Susanne Hoy, Diane Putnam, trester88, Bergfex and 16 other people have particularly liked this photo

I stopped the car on the way back from Stourhead to take a picture of a similar scene Keith :) Yours has the added interest of the obelisk however! The blue sky does it for me and I love the framing of the PiP with the tree branches. Fields of gold all around at the moment!

There's lots of oilseed rape fields in flower at the moment............but it's not always easy to find one with a bit of interest in it in addition to the flowers. I was lucky that my wife spotted it as we drove by............and that there was a lay-by handy.

Glad you like it Rosa...........thank you.

Oh Keith, this is just SO MUCH NICER than that horrifying monstrosity in the last picture! :D :D

Honestly, rape fields were a truly remarkable thing for me to see when I first started looking at pictures on Flickr and then ipernity. They stagger the mind in their endless yellow! So lovely to see, and in this case, how COOL to get that obelisk in there as a focal point! So interesting to see and naturally, it's a perfect, "Keith Burton" picture! LOVE the inset too with the branches forming a lovely frame. I do see how clouds would add even more but both pictures are outstanding so you can be quiet now! :D :D (thanks for the info too, always interesting to read about!)

Oh my, company in a couple of days, won't that be wonderful! I do know the love/not so much love about company...it's so nice to see them but *yawn*...so tiring with the focused attention and needing to be "on" whenever you're in a shared room area! :)

It is grand to have you back. And totally reasonable if you cannot visit or comment on some/most days...it's just crazy how company throws the routine out the window! :D

Your photo could serve as a model how to do rule of thirds, it's so well composed. It seems raps seed starts to bloom earlier every year....

Beautiful simplicity. I like the cloudless blue sky It works well with the yellow of the oil seed rape.

I like both. The tree framing perhaps shades it for me. We get so many clear blue skies here that I try and avoid shots of them now!

Dusting (or any kind of housework) is OK................the trouble is, once you've done it, you have to do it all again a year later!

It looks great how the obelisk rises out of the rape field. I like the contrast between the blue sky and the yellow field. You're right - a few white clouds would have been great.
