The Sunday Challenge - Forced Perspective (forced anxiety)

The Sunday Challenge - Forced Perspective (forced anxiety)
Hay up! (note in pic of my set up)

Whew...this was a tough one this week. I didn't get my shot until Saturday evening after much research on the internet all week and coming up with zero ideas. It was confusing to me as I think some of the examples of forced perspective online may have been done in Photoshop and this challenge required you to actually use just your camera with little to no post processing.

After I decided on this photo and put everything away I did some more reading on "forced perspective" and realized that if I would have been farther away from the toy Bobcat it would have made it easier to get everything in focus (cropping afterward if needed.) So next time I will try increasing my depth of field by backing up a bit more.

(Amazing Stoker you get the blue ribbon for "Most Challenging Challenge" so far in my book. :)

, Indycaver (Norm), HaarFager, Don Sutherland and 4 other people have particularly liked this photo

I figured out the same thing you did about how to get both subjects in focus. I must say that your idea was marvelous and the execution was good, too. It would have been perfect if the tractor was in the same sunlight as the barn :) And I agree, this challenge gets the prize for being the most challenging to the most people (i.e. all of us)!

Thanks so much Val. Yes, getting enough light on the bobcat was a challenge as it was on the window sill so I couldn't use a flash. I did have a lamp right over it, but it still wasn't enough. Oh well, life is for learning right? ;)

Really Sami? My mind keeps switching between it looking real and it looking like a toy. Thank you!

fooled me, I was trying to work out where the FP was, until I saw the thumbnail . . . nicely done.

And re the blue ribbon, I'm now in hiding . . .

Oh thank you so much A.S. I really appreciate that. Hey, you deserve a blue ribbon you made us all think and rise to the challenge. And when it's all over we feel even better about doing it. I really learned a lot this week. :)

Clever idea, Karen! The perspective is spot on so that the farm equipment, in this case the Bobcat, looks exactly the right size in comparison to the barn.

Excellent Karen!

My biggest problem was getting the front object in focus!

Great barn and shot Karen. As you've sussed the main issue with this is the lighting ... if you'd set up outside the window in the light you'd perhaps been happier, but as it is I think it's a damned good effort! :)

Thanks so much Paul. Funny, I never even thought of taking it outside. Can I borrow your table next time? ;) (no one has ever said "sussed" to me before. I feel privileged.)
