Flowers on the cactus

Flowers on the cactus
They grow out of the tip of each thick leaf and when they die down, the leaf then has another "blade" to add to them. You can just make out the different blades, which denote how old the plant is

Oh my, how beautiful!!! A flowering cactus, what a treat! And thank you for the information, I had no idea about the blades and telling a cactus' age this way. Totally fascinating!

I call them blades Janet for want of a better word, and also because I don't know the correct term for them. I suppose I could look them up in Google, but blades do for me!!!! LOL I only say that the blades denote their age, but sometimes a blade doesn't flower, and so that particular blade doesn't add on the stem. It's only when they flower that the next blade is formed. I look at my cactus and there are different number of blades on each stem, but that's because the stems form at different times. It looks complicated when you see it written down - but I don't really care how old a plant is - as long as it survives that's all I care about.

YES THEY ARE GORGEOUS PAM, BUT IT'S SUCH A SHAME THEY DON'T LAST VERY LONG. WHAT COLOUR BLOOMS ARE YOURS.

HOW ARE YOU DOING? WHEN THE WEATHER WARMS UP A BIT, YOU'LL BE ABLE TO GET OUT AND LET THE SUN GIVE YOU VITAMIN D WHICH YOU NEED TO GET BETTER. XX

WELL THAT IS A GOOD EXCUSE NOT TO HAVE A WASH!!!!!! DON'T WORRY ABOUT THINGS PAM, YOU WILL GET RISES AND TROUGHS, SOMETIMES YOU THINK THAT THIS IS AS GOOD AS IT GETS, BUT IT ISN'T. IT'S A SLOW PROCESS, YOUR BODY HAS TO ADJUST TO THE SHOCK, SO IT HAS A REST THEN GETS GOING AGAIN. I LOOK BACK AND REMEMBER HOW IT WAS FOR ME WHEN I GOT HOME AND I'VE ACHIEVED SO MUCH SINCE. IF I DIDN'T HAVE THIS AWFUL IMBALANCE PROBLEM, I WOULD BE SO MUCH FITTER, BUT TO ME - IT'S A DAMN SIGHT BETTER THAN THE ALTERNATIVE. I AM THINKING OF YOU AND SENDING WARM THOUGHTS TO YOU. YOU'LL FEEL BETTER ONCE WE HAVE WARM WEATHER AROUND US.THE WINTER ALWAYS MAKES YOU FEEL LOW - WELL IT DOES ME ANYWAY. TAKE CARE XXX
