Another beautiful sundown Roger, great textures in the road surface which I can relate to on my trips across the Fens in Cambridgeshire. I guess there are a few exhaust pipe scrapings just beyond the railings.

Indeed they are legion across the levels Maurice, the landscape is not unlike the Fens straight droves and 90 degree corners plus the roller coaster surfaces for drivers, Many thanks.

Beautiful light and a lovely colourful sunset. The road surfaces here are not great either. Lots of grit washed onto them at the moment from the torrential rain and more potholes have opened up on the hill road. I kept having to dodge them on the way home today.

Fantastic colours in the sunset

The routes of many of these old roads go back to the days of farmers herding their animals off to market. In typical local council style, they never applied much effort or resources to making them decent, simply a layer of tarmac over whatever had been there for centuries... Hence the effect you describe so well..

Many thanks Peter, I assume the lowers levels dry and shrink then expand again as the wet season arrives sadly it does not happen evenly, the areas around the peat diggings are the worst by far.

Thank you for the terrific comments Keith, the camera is really good with low light images and at around 8.45pm it was much darker than the image shows, I had poped it onto the mono pod just to be sure but it coped quite well.

Thank you for the nice comments Annalia, these bumps appear on droves all over the levels and locals take no notice you just look out for them and slow down, droves are almost all single lane with the odd passing place so speed is not recommended,
