A Hopperian note seems to have crept into the McMichael Canadian Art Collection in Kleinburg, Ontario. Compare (only if you feel like it, of course) Hopper's Morning Sun:
www.edwardhopper.net/images/paintings/morning-sun.jpg
Yes, Hopper forgot to paint her left arm, although it's in his sketch for the painting. He got her left hand in, though.

I don't think the McMichael Collection is well known to tourists to Toronto. The collection is spectacular, though, featuring, according to its website, "over 6,500 artworks by Tom Thomson, the Group of Seven, their contemporaries, and First Nations, Métis, Inuit and contemporary artists who have contributed to the development of Canadian art."

The grounds are spectacular, too. A 45-minute drive from Toronto City Hall.

I like this scene. It is tranquil and inviting. I'm not sure whether this is a photograph you took of a room you visited during your visit, or a piece of art you made the subject of your camera; I guess the former. Either way, it is strong and glorious.
The 'Morning Sun' painting surprised me for its flatness when I was expecting an abundance of light and shadow. The subject's left arm would, however, have been only incidental had it been added. No point wasting paint on it really.

Thanks, TLC. The chairs are set up to let you admire the collection's beautiful grounds.

The flatness may be due to the poor reproduction, which is from the Columbus (Ohio) Museum of Art, its home. I recall being much more impressed when I saw this in Columbus many years ago.

Yes, the missing arm has not stopped this photo from becoming widely admired. Apparently it spends most of its time on the road, appearing in exhibitions elsewhere,

A beautiful homage to Hopper. I love your shadows and the quality of the light. I feel I don't know enough about North American Art so you may have inspired me to do a bit of investigation.

Oooh, that's my kind of room....................peaceful, quite and with what looks like a cracking view. I'd have to get rid of one of the chairs though, so no one could disturb me :-))

I love this shot too John............the light, shadows and warm colours have come together very nicely..!!

Thanks for the link too................I've never seen this painting before, but it's reassuring to know that even famous artists mess thing ups sometimes..........there's hope for me yet!

A great composition with the light and shadows giving emphasis to the empty room.

Thanks, George. I think the main difference from Hopper is that you can actually see there's glass there. Hopper tended to ignore that aspect.

A special shot, John, I like how you connect it with the look of Hopper. The exterior frame left of the window echoes Morning Sun's, too. Lovely composition!

Yes the light is very Hopper, and it's a great catch and image, I think I could sit in that chair for a long time without moving
