Berlin neighborhood (#2001)

Berlin neighborhood (#2001)
From the window of my room at the Rewari, looking southeast to a long block that is primarily residential. The hotel was recommended by an acquaintance and worked out perfectly -- it's in a quiet, ethnically diverse, neighborhood, with friendly and interesting staff, very close to good u-bahn connections, and close to major sites of interest.

Clint, , have particularly liked this photo

Do hotel staff speak English pretty routinely, even relatively off the beaten path like this? My German is rudimentary in the extreme.

I stayed primarily in hotels that cater to European tourists and even in those most spoke what seemed to be good English, but then I began to realize it was 'retail English'. When you actually started to get into a conversation, the limits of language showed up quickly.

This, on the other hand, looks like what I would have imagined for Berlin before the war and the division. It's an interesting contrast.
