Kelpies - Ride With Me (3 x PiPs)

Kelpies are shape shifting aquatic spirits that often take the form of horses, although they can take human form. They inhabit the rivers and lochs of Scotland and In some tales they lure unsuspecting humans down to the depths to a watery grave.

The Kelpies at Helix Park, Falkirk are fantastic sculptures designed by Andy Scott and were completed in October 2013. They are 30 metres high (100 feet) and were designed to pay homage to Scotland's working horses who used to pull barges along the canals.

These magnificent sculptures dominate the landscape and I understand are beautifully lit at night.

There are also two smaller versions outside of the restaurant and two more at Ardrishaig harbour.

Thank you very much Joe. It was our second visit and I couldn't wait to see these magnificent sculptures again. You are lucky to have been so many times The Kelpies are amazing, as is the Falkirk Wheel which is always worth another look.

Yes we have had a lovely day thank you. Our wedding anniversary so we were out for lunch and then for a drive. It is still too hot for me though. Strange to say it when you are from the UK but I wish it would rain!!!!

I wasn't lucky enough to see anyone live apart from Desmond Dekker and in later years Pink Martini. I guess it is why I love watching coverage of music festivals now!!!

All I can say is I would not have taken any pictures if the satnav had it's way, - 'you have reached your destination on the right'...but no entrance from that road so you can look as you pass it but that's it:-)) The last of many idiosyncrasies on that holiday!! There are many stories from Scotland and from other countries about the Kelpie taking the form of horses and of humans and luring people to their deaths (and as many about people's close encounters with them). I love myths and legends! I took the close ups of the head from a safe distance anyway Guni!!!!!

There are lots of stories about the kelpies and from different origins, and a number are quite gruesome but there are also stories about some who survived their encounters. The stories fascinate me and it is quite fitting the sculptures are situated close to the canals. It also fits that they are a tribute to the working horses on the Scottish canals.
