Good thinking regarding copyright issues. One can never be too careful in that area. Shallow DoF more often than not it really does draw attention to what we want to emphasize in an image.

Legislation in the EU is rather strict regardig copyright so it's always better to be safe than sorry;-) And yes, shallow DoF is also fun to play with.
