Morning sun over Hamborger Sound

In fine weather MS Sarfaq Ittuk sails through Hamborger Sound which lies north of the town of Maniitsoq between the island of Kekertarmiut and the Mainland. It's ringend by high mountains and the odd glacier.

Bei schönem Wetter fährt die MS Sarfaq Ittuk durch den Hamborger Sund. der nördlich der Stadt Maniitsoq zwischen der Insel Kekertarmiut und dem Festland liegt. Er ist an beiden Seiten von steilen Bergen und vereinzelten Gletschern umgeben.

Sehr schön und interessant Gudrun.
Jetzt bekommt die Insel Grönland schön langsam ein Gesicht. Ohne Deine Bilder wäre sie bei mir ein weißer Fleck auf der Landkarte geblieben mit Schnee und Gletscher...

Herzlichen Dank, Udo! Die unvergletscherte Küstenline war in Grönland immer bewohnt. Im Süden, wo die Wikinger ihre Siedlungen hatten, soll es auch tatsächlich grün sein und sogar Landwirtschaft betrieben werden.
Die Fortbewgung im Land ist auch heute noch fast nur mit dem Boot oder mit kleinen Flugzeugen/ Helikopter möglich.

I love that sunburst. Apparently when Iceland and Greenland were named they got the names mixed up. Greenland should have been the land of ice. I don't know whether that's true.

Thanks a lot, Amelia! Well, Icelandic glaciers used to be very close to the coast once. And when the vikings colonized southern Greenland the climate was a bit milder than later on. Today they have sheep and some form of agricullture in the very south of Greenland!

Thank you so much, Steve! I tried various versions of this, the darkest turned out the best. I had to lift the shadows a bit but the burnt out area was much smaller that way.

Herzlichen Dank, Uwe! Netterweise war nachts immer Regenwetter, da ließ es sich beruhigt schlafen. Außerdem fahren sie nachts eher weiter draußen, wo man eh nicht so viel sieht. Zur Zeit der Mitternachtssonne könntest du dich in einen Stuhl an Deck setzen....
