Björgunarsveit - Search and Rescue (3xPiP)
Search and rescue from the Reykjavik area showing their vehicles, typically Icelandic super-Jeeps which are able to cope with river crossings and very rough terrain. The services are run by unpaid volunteers who often risk their lives to get people out of danger. Their work isn't made any easier by a growing number of tourists ignoring prohibitions and basic safety measures so there is an ongoing discussion whether reckless tourists should be billed for their rescue. Rettungsdienste aus dem Raum Reykjavík präsentieren ihre Fahrzeuge, typisch isländische Super-Jeeps, die mit Flussdurchquerungen und extremem Gelände klarkommen. Die Rettungsdienste bestehen aus Freiwilligen, die oft genug ihr Leben riskieren. Durch die zunehmende Zahl idiotischer Touristen, die Verbote und Warnungen ignorieren, wird ihre Arbeit nicht einfacher. Deshalb wird diskutiert, ob durch Leichtsinn verursachte Rettungsaktionen zukünftig in Rechnung gestellt werden sollen.

Das wäre nur richtig Gudrun...die Kosten decken zwar nur den materiellen Aspekt ab, denn wenn einer der Retter zu Schaden kommt dann ist das nicht zu bezahlen aber es könnte wirksam sein!
Die Autos sind ja Oschis!!! Super vor allem der hier vor der Glasfassade!!!!

Herzlichen Dank, Tanja! Da wäre ich auch sofort dafür, denn die Blödheit mancher kennt keine Grenzen!
Diese Super-Jeeps sind echt DInger, da bräuchte ich eine Leiter zum Einsteigen;-) Die werden in Island extra umgebaut mit Lastwagen-Unterbau.

A terrific set of images you've shared with us of these amazing vehicles. I love them all, but find the first one in the Notes perhaps most appealing as for whatever reason it has an almost 3-dimensional feel to it! :)

As for billing the tourists ... go for it is all I can say! ;)

Thank you so much, Paul! As there weren't any vehicles which suited the Icelandic terrain, they started adapting SUVs. Civil protection have even bought special US army vehicles from the gulf war which are used during volcanic eruptions when nothing else works in the complete darkness.

8 Zyl., ein Auspuffrohr wie ein Fuchsbau, Verbrauch wie 4 Golf, nötig ist es da sicher, aber die Menschheit wird immer verrückter und brüstet sich im Nachhinein noch, dass sie mit solchen Karren gerettet werden musste. Wenn aber die Jungs hier mit solchen Gefährten auf der Königsallee herumröhren, kann ich nur lachen...Könnte ja ein Regenschauer geben...:-)

Schönen Dank, Lothar! Ich bin ganz dafür, SUVs aus Deutschland komplett zu verbannen, außer mit Sondergenehmigung für Forst etc...Bei uns ist allerdings auch der letzte Feldweg noch in besserem Zustand als eine Hauptstrasse in Island;-)

Das halte ich auch für sinnvoll, Gudrun, Verbote und Gebote sind nicht dafür gemacht, dass sie nicht beachtet werden.
Wahrscheinlich sind es Amphibienfahrzeuge. Sind es tatsächlich "Jeeps"?

Vielen Dank, Uli! Früher hat es Verbote nicht gebraucht, die Einheimischen wussten, wie sie sich verhalten müssen und die Besucher waren auch verantwortungsbewusst. Aber heute kommen irgendwelche Jungs, die ein bisschen in Shanghai mit dem Auto rumgekurvt sind, nehmen einen Mietwagen und denken, es fährt sich wie in der Stadt;-)
Ja, es sind Geländewagen, aber die werden In Island erst massiv umgebaut, das Unterteil ist dann wie ein Lastwagen;-)

This looks to be a very useful rescue vehicle, and vital when I looked at your notes, Gudrun. People take unnecessary risks, wearing inappropriate clothing, not carrying adequate maps or GPS systems, and generally not taking into consideration local conditions. Ignorance leads to sea and mountain rescuers often purring their lives at risk to rescue tourists. Folks ignore local warnings or just don't think it wall happen to them.
I love the reflections in the windows of the building and those on the van windscreen. The PiPs are fantastic too.

Many thanks, Amelia! In Iceland there's excellent info from the Met Office, as an app and even with automatic SMS warnings, but some people just ignore everything. I'm afraid English public school boys were among the culprits, setting out for a winter crossing of the highlands with inadequate equipment. They were warned several times and had to be rescued twice...
