View from the pass over Möðrudalsfjallgarður. What is now road 901 used to be part of the ring road until 2005. Möðrudalsöræfi consists of dolerite and palagonite bedrock with cones and ridges from late ice age fissure eruptions.

Danke Auggie! Ja, beides ist Vulkanwüste, wenn auch die andere Geologie andere Farben ergibt. Habe mich dort sofort heimisch gefühlt;-)))

Das ist eine reine Vulkanwüste! Die Ebene im Hintergrund ist die Riftzone, wo die amerikanische und eurasische Platte auseinanderdriften, das Foto ist also noch in Europa aufgenommen;-)
