These gorgeous flowers were found in one of the gardens that Steve and I visited a few years ago. I think these petunias are almost unreal in their color and I have read that you can only purchase these flowers as small plants. If you were to attempt to plant seeds gathered from this flower, the resulting blooms would not look at all like this striped beauty.

They're indeed a gorgeous Petunia variety... Very common at the garden centers here in the NYC area. I can tell you from experience that most of these are sterile and the few which aren't have seeds that yield purple flowering Petunias. They can however be grown from clones (mature branches being rooted).... In the end, though, it's much easier (and cheap) to just buy the plant and enjoy it as the annual it is ;)
