Where We Saw The Bear. He was on the path across the creek (outlined), but of course I didn't have the camera out and got no picture because he didn't stick around! This is on the Pacific Crest Trail at the north edge of the Squaw Valley ski area (where they run the big tram in the summer to provide easier access to the high country). The water is the headwaters of Squaw Creek, and I'm sure that's what attracted the bear because surface water is scarce this late in the season. The insert shows a better view of the headwater pools, a bit farther up the trail, probably where he was drinking. We seldom see bears, but on this hike we saw two, another farther up the trail!
