Limbo Rock
Wrecking Crew member Billy Strange wrote this on the dashboard of a car after a $100 bet that he couldn't write a tune better than the one that was aired on the car radio at the time. Billy didn't think much of his five-minute composition and named it, "Monotonous Melody". "Limbo Rock" (Strange) is heard here as "A Lot of Limbo" by Billy Strange and the Telstars.
The Champs (Chuck Rio aka Danny Flores, Dave Burgess, Bob Morris, Ben Van Norman, Dean McDaniel, Gen Alden, Paul Saenz and Dale Norris) hit the top forty when they recorded "Limbo Rock" (Strange) in 1961. Glen Campbell was in the touring version of the Champs at this time, along with Dan Seals and Dash Crofts.
Chubby Checker's (Ernest Evans) album "Limbo Party" features "Limbo Rock" (Sheldon - Strange). Cameo-Parkway owner Kal Mann (Cohen) wrote the song's lyrics using the name Jon Sheldon. Chubby took the song to number two in 1962.
