I Hear You Knocking

"I Hear You Knocking" was composed by Dave Bartholomew and Earl King (pusing the pname "Pearl King") and first recorded in New Orleans by Smiley Lewis (Overton Amos Lemons) in 1955. According to the Imperial label it was written solely by D. Bartholomew when this well done release peaked at number two on the R&B chart.

Actress/singer Gale Storm (Josephine Cottle) of "My Little Margie" fame recorded the hit polished "white" version of "I Hear You Knocking" (D. Bartholomew) with Billy Vaughn's Orchestra and Chorus selling a million records in 1955 when it peaked in the top five.

Welshman Dave Edmunds recorded the 1970 cover of "I Hear You Knocking" (King - Bartholomew) and in 1971 hit Billboard's top five with this unique reading. The "shout outs" are simply wonderful!
