Heather on the Hill

Heather on the Hill
Brigadoon is a musical with a book and lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner, and music by Frederick Loewe. Songs from the musical, such as "Almost Like Being in Love", have become standards. It features two American tourists who stumble upon Brigadoon, a mysterious Scottish village that appears for only one day every 100 years.

In the mid fifties we performed this musical at the Aldershot County High School for Girls. I had a minor role, Jean, in the production, and the song, Heather on the Hill, reminds me of the musical.

The John Wilson Orchestra: The Heather On The Hill (from Brigadoon)

The heather in the photo is Calluna vulgaris, common heather, ling, or simply heather, and it is is the sole species in the genus Calluna in the flowering plant family Ericaceae.. It covers large parts of the local sandstone hill called The Cliffe in Ruyton XI Towns.

Ruesterstaude, Frans Schols, Alexander Prolygin, Luis Soares and 17 other people have particularly liked this photo

Looks like the heather there, Amelia, is bigger than in Scotland. LOL. You have captured the colours and textures very well. All the best, Joe

Delicious to click on your link for the music. We also have Calluna here, but in winter (because of temperature!)

That's a beautiful big clump and in full flower. The heather was out on Falkland hill yesterday when I was up there but more subdued and not so big. I was hoping the blaeberries/bilberries were ripe but not yet.

Beautiful. It's strange I never heard of this musical.

It was first performed in 1947, when I was six, Dany, and has never been a popular musical. You're far too young to remember that. ;-)

Maybe, even if I'm not so young, I'm 65. And there are older musicals that we know only because we saw them in tv, old movies.I remember "Singin' in the rain" and "7 brides for 7 brothers", that are before my time and others that I saw later, " West side Story", "Mary Poppins", " The sound of music". All seen after the 15 years. After tht there were others.

Warum lacht der Hase, wenn er über die Heide läuft? – Weil ihn die Erica am Bauch kitzelt –
schön, wenn man von solchen Erinnerungen zehren kann, Amelia!
Liebe Grüße!
