Hazardous appliances.

Hazardous appliances.
Saturday Self Challenge: Fire/embers.

A report in 'Which' magazine, highlighted the dangers of several household appliances. The burned front cover on a bed of embers still displayed the message. The worst offenders were faulty washing machines causing 17.8% of all total fires, followed by tumble dryers at 17.3%. Thankfully PC equipment was low risk at 0.9%.

The PiP is a photo of the front page before it was burned, it already had the flames around it on the page.

I had my tumble drier drying clothes and I was watching tv. The smoke alarms in the house went off and I found the kitchen filled with smoke from the tumble dryer. It was a Hotpoint. I unplugged it and cleared the smoke but I count myself fortunate not to have a house fire.

I would never have thought about a washing machine starting a fire. How interesting.

What great images for this challenge, Amelia. I really like how you've highlighted both the embers and the flames. Nicely done. :)

Great image and a much needed warning. Never leave the house while a tumble drier or washing machine is in action. My Hotpoint drier caught fire while I was out. It had either completed its cycle or was within minutes of completing it but it wasn't switched off at the power point. There was no fire but the smoke damage was such that I was out of my house for six months. The entire kitchen had to be replaced including the back door and the double glazing. Hundreds of books, two sofas and an armchair went to the tip. More traumatic than that was dealing with the insurance company, one recommended by Which. I can still go into a rant when I remember them.

A very clever way to illustrate fire, and a very timely message about the dangers of clothes dryers; I never leave the house with mine on, and if I need to go out, I will wait until I get back home to dry my clothes.

bei einer Waschmaschine denke ich mehr an Wasserschaden als an Feuer ...;
