Swan Vintage ~ Bruton

Swan Vintage ~ Bruton
Taken on my walk around Bruton, Somerset, which is 5 miles (8km) from me. The shop shown used to be the Post Office and has a George VI letter box set in the wall. The Post Office has been relocated to the local Premier convenience store in the High Street.

Bill Robinson / kinderbill, Amelia, Fred Fouarge, LotharW and 32 other people have particularly liked this photo

A lovely little shop nicely captured Rosa,
Such a shame all these little post offices are disappearing, they were often the focal point of the community

Yes it is a shame Roger. I was pleased to see that it didn't stay empty for very long.

A lovely looking shop Rosa. Nice photo.

I presume the red square to the right of the post box once held stamp machines.

Rosalyn Hilborne club has replied to David Slater (Spodde… club
Thank you David. Yes I think I do remember seeing stamp machines there many years ago. I guess there are none around now, as they have become so expensive!

Yes, I agree with you Jose Manuel. It is a delight to see small shops flourish, and long may they do so. Thank you very much for your kind comments. Good evening.

Oooh, I do like a village with an anagram of my name :-))

Captured in lovely light Rosa.........especially on the stonework where you can see all the tones and textures. I like the old King George VI post box which draws the eye nicely. I also like the shop sign and the white swan.

A charming photo with a touch of "olde worlde" elegance about it.

So it is! :-) The owners have done a good job in making the shop look so inviting. I was so pleased that it didn't stand empty for long.

Thank goodness the post box was not removed, even though the stamp machine next to it has been gone for a long time now.

Thanks for your kind comments Keith. Good evening.

A lovely vintage type shop, Rosa. Perhaps they're now selling off all the items from parcels that had been incorrectly addressed ;-))

And I really like the George VI mailbox set in the wall! So you have them as well :-) Remember I took one like that (yellow and set in a wall) in Baden-Baden...
Rosalyn Hilborne club has replied to Edna Edenkoben club
Well, you never know Edna ;-)

There are many letter boxes set in walls here. There is one in my village and I pass two more on my drive to town. When I was a child I used to want to live in a house with a letter box....strange child ;-)) I do remember your from Baden-Baden.

Here no longer.
And don't all houses have letter boxes? Here they do...well, unless you live in the north 40 ;-)))

Rosalyn Hilborne club has replied to Edna Edenkoben club
I mean post boxes owned by the post office, the red ones. There are many still set in walls and fences. Yes you're right we all have letter boxes in our front door :-)

Lovely upmarket second hand shop, an interesting post box A very small opening, do you know anything about the "hatch' ? at the side
20 months ago.
Rosalyn Hilborne club has replied to Peter Castell club
The "hatch" next to the post box is where the stamp machines once were. I think they were removed a long time ago though.

I never thought about a stamp machine I've not seen one of those for a long while, I kept wondering if it was something to do with parcels

I wonder if you bought any vintage clothing here, Rosa. I would have been tempted to go in and have a rummage. The post box is eye catching.

Well Amelia, had I not just got a Paul Costello coat for £12 in the very nice charity shop, I might have gone inside this one, but I was still feeling very chuffed ;-))
