Excellent series of in-flight images Keith, They are I assume common gulls which must be a little more refined than the dreaded Herring Gulls that we are plagued with,
I do have to agree with Judite when she says they look elegant, the bottom left image is a good example.

These are all black-headed gulls Roger...........in their winter plumage. They can be very greedy but tend not to get aggressive like Herring Gulls. They fight amongst themselves usually.

Glad you like this little collection.............they're always good fun to watch and photograph.

Brilliant captures of these birds in flight. Do you put your camera on multi-shots to find the best angle of the birds as they fly? As I don't get out, I don't often see many birds taking off like this, so when the weather gets warmer, I won't mind sitting out and try and capture the magpies and wood pigeons as they flit among my trees.

To capture birds in flight I normally set my camera to continuous auto-focus, with a high shutter speed and shoot in sequential shooting (low), which gives me around 18 frames per second. I don't generally use more fps as it doesn't give the auto focus time to catch up!
