The Lone Paddleboarder

The Lone Paddleboarder
Taken on a tranquil, but cold winter afternoon, at Langstone Harbour, Hampshire.

(He's braver than me..........he would have been very cold in that water if he'd fallen off the board)!

ColRam, trester88, Berny, Ulrich John and 18 other people have particularly liked this photo

Great atmosphere in subdued but lovely light in this well composed image Keith, by the wash he appears to be making good progress across the harbour and I see no reason why
I could not stand on that board, providing it wasn't in the water ;-))

He seems to be posing for you;-) A beautifully composed photo, the soft blue and grey colours add to it.

Ha, ha.........I think he was more likely concentrating on not falling in the water!

I'm pleased you like my shot Gudrun.........thanks very much.

That always looks good Keith. I would not mind giving this a go in warm weather perhaps.

Thanks for sharing with our UK Landscape Photography Group , Herb

Thanks Herb............appreciated.

It's certainly becoming a popular pastime...........I see lots of them about, but usually in the summer months.

Lovely wintry image Keith, but the man's an idiot he's not even wearing suitable clothing.

Thank you Maggie.

You can't see it in the photo, but he's wearing a life-jacket and some sort of "shortie" wet-suit I think.........but you're right, it wouldn't do him much good in very cold water!

It normally is at this time of year Jaap..........but it gets quite busy in the summer.

Very well composed and I love the soft colours! I definitely would have fallen in....I bet you waited a while to see if he did!? ;-)) Super shot Keith.

We had a flurry of snow this morning!

Glad you like it Rosa. I did watch him for a while (and some people out rowing), but he seemed to know what he was doing. It was definitely not "hanging around" weather.

This is something I wish had been around when I was younger and able to stand without falling!!!! It looks a fantastic hobby, but as all been said above - it's rather daft thing to do, this time of year and not even wearing proper clothes. I do hope he didn't fall in, otherwise it would have meant some poor lifeboat men had to get out and save him!!!!

Me too Jenny..........I did a little canoeing, which was good, but paddling boarding hadn't been invented then. I don't think he fell in........he seemed to know what he was doing.

Whatever people say about this I do wonder about it being yet another selfish pursuit, like the people who swim in reservoirs and paddleboard in places like Brotherswater having walked past the no Paddleboards sign and them head off towards swans on the water.

Keith Burton club has replied to Colin Ashcroft club
I suppose there will always be selfish people who put themselves and subsequently others at risk, especially when that activity has been specifically prohibited.............but you can't let those people ruin the enjoyment of other, more responsible people.

In früheren Wintern benutzte man auf dem Schlittschuhe, heute ein Board zum Paddeln. Ein Zeichen des Klimawandels.

It's probably been over a hundred years since anyone could ice-skate on the sea in this part of the country Wilhelm...........but it's definitely getting warmer and the tides are getting noticeably higher each year.
