The Royal Oak and the Old Mill

The Royal Oak and the Old Mill
The weather here yesterday started off cold, cloudy and drizzly..........but by the time I had to drive my wife to her nail appointment just after lunch, it was starting to clear, so I decided to drive an extra couple of miles to Langstone after I dropped her off. This is the sight that greeted me on arrival.......sunshine, reasonably calm waters (just after high tide) and some lovely reflections. About an hour later the sun had gone and the clouds were back.

I know I've posted many shots of this place.........but I just can't resist it.........could you?

Splendid viewed large on black, if if say so myself :-)

Oh no - I'd never visit this place and not want to take loads of photos. This is a beautiful scene - and a great place to have a pub, I should think it would be a great place to sit on that wall and enjoy a pint, although I don't drink beer, I could still enjoy myself with a pint of fizzy lemonade!!! I think that black mill-like building is fabulous, especially being next to those small cottages. I hope your wife was pleased with her nails.

I'm pleased you like this one Jenny..........it really is a lovely place. In summer, I often stop for a quick shandy and sit on the benches outside the pub, or even on the wall (depending on what the tide is doing). The Old Mill is now a private residence and had its sails removed many years ago. The Royal Oak is supposed to be haunted..!!

Very beautiful shot, Keith! Except for the coldish light, I can see a glimpse of spring.

Thank you Diane.............it was pretty cold, even in the sunshine, but spring is definitely on the way........the ducks on the mill pond were already fighting over the females..!!

Just beautiful, you caught just the right moment! The clear cold light is perfect and I like that the water isn't totally calm which adds interest to the reflections.

Trés bel endroit et trés belle photo. Quel est ce curieux édifice foncé sur la droite ?

You're very kind as always Jean Paul. The dark building is in fact an old windmill, which has had its sails removed.

A brief history:

The Old Mill, now a private residence, was a working mill until WWI. It is made up of three distinct parts, the mill itself built across a creek, built in 1800 – 1832, the mill store, built in 1800 – 1832 on brick piers and the oldest part, an attached windmill, built in 1720 – 1740. Barges could be brought up to the mill for transporting the milled goods away around the coast.

If you do a search on IP for the Old Mill (taken by me) you'll find that I have taken many photos over the years. It's one of my favourite places.

Super, das gefällt mir! Das Gebäudeensemble bildet ein attraktives Fotomotiv und die Spiegelungen sind großartig! Das war eine gute Idee, dorthin zu fahren, Keith!
