Er ist etwa 25 bis 30 Millimeter groß,die Vorderflügel sind Graubraun bis ockerfarben gefärbt mit zwei markanten dunkelbraunen Querbinden. Ein typisches Erkennungsmerkmal ist ein dunkelbrauner Dreiecksfleck nahe der Flügelspitze.Die Hinterflügel sind im Sitzen oft verdeckt, aber beim Auffliegen gut sichtbar: Sie zeigen eine kontrastreiche, gelb-orangefarbene bis braungelbe Musterung. Dadurch wirkt der Falter im Flug überraschend bunt.Sie fliegt meist in zwei Generationen pro Jahr: die erste von Ende April bis Juni, die zweite von Juli bis August.Nahrung der Falter: Die erwachsenen Schmetterlinge saugen tagsüber fleißig Nektar, mit einer Vorliebe für Schmetterlingsblütler (wie Luzerne oder Klee) !!

A key identifying feature is a dark brown triangular spot near the wing tip. The hindwings are often concealed when the moth is at rest but are clearly visible during flight, displaying a striking yellow-orange to brownish-yellow pattern. This gives the moth a surprisingly colorful appearance in flight. It typically produces two generations per year: the first from late April to June, and the second from July to August. Diet: The adult moths actively feed on nectar during the day, showing a preference for plants in the pea family (such as alfalfa or clover).
