Buses in Westborough, Scarborough – 12 August 1994 (236-22)

Buses in Westborough, Scarborough – 12 August 1994 (236-22)
Friday 12 August 1994 – Competition in Scarborough is keen. At this time R W Appleby had a base in the town from where it operated coaches as well as covered top buses on town services and open top seafront services. One of their Eastern Coachworks bodied Daimler Fleetlines heading to Cayton is seen in the background of this shot taken from the upper deck of an Appleby’s open topper (WJY 760) in Westborough.

East Yorkshire Motor Services is the larger operator in the town and runs its local services under the Scarborough and District name. S&D Reeve Burgess bodied Mercedes-Benz 811D 425 (F425 GAT) carries the ‘Scarborough Skipper’ branding and was new in June 1989.

The bustling thoroughfare beyond leads down to the harbour area of the seafront. Westborough gives way to Newborough then Eastborough which collectively referred to by my Grandparents as the ‘main street’. The Castle walls stand high in the distant background.
