Dodson ‘Charabus’ seen at Showbus, Duxford – 26 Sep 1999 (424-17A)

Sunday 26 September 1999 – BD 209, a magnificent restoration undertaken by Mike Sutcliffe seen at Showbus, Duxford.

It has a Christopher Dodson ‘Charabus’ body which was displayed on the Dodson stand at the 1921 Commercial Motor Show at Olympia, London. A patented design. By opening the fabric roof and removing the four windows on each side (painted brown) an almost fully open vehicle was created. Thus a ‘chara’ or a ‘bus’. It was married to a Leyland G7 chassis.

It had been used as a garden shed for 54 years when discovered at Irthlingborough, Northamptonshire.
