The village is built around the Abbey of Notre-Dame du Bec (11th C.). Today, a community of Benedictine monks still occupies the premises. At first glance, the Saint-Nicolas tower (15th C.) stands out, a square construction of more than 11 m in Anglo-Norman style (former bell tower). Au premier abord se dégage la tour Saint-Nicolas (XVème s.), une construction carrée de plus de 11 m de côté, de style anglo-normand qui servait de clocher. Noch heute befindet sich hier eine Gemeinschaft von Benediktinermönchen. Auf den ersten Blick ist der Saint-Nicolas-Turm (15. One of the 8 towers of Lassay Castle is currently being renovated, the elaborate scaffolding around is impressive. Here's a view before the works . I wasn't able to go out on Saturday 19 August (evening garden party with guests and lots of preparations to do). So I took this photo in the afternoon from one end of our house. Avant ici il y avait le bucher, aujourd'hui c'est un bureau. MEIN BEITRAG ZUM WELTFOTOTAG. Ich konnte an diesem Samstag 19. August nicht von zuhause weg (abends Gartenparty mit Gästen, daher viele Vorbereitungen zu treffen). Deshalb habe ich nachmittags dieses Foto von einem Ende unseres Hauses gemacht. Früher war hier der Holzschuppen, heute ist es ein Büro.

Au cœur de la forêt de Brocéliande, en bordure de l'étang de Paimpont, l’abbaye forme un ensemble architectural plutôt imposant composé principalement d’un grand bâtiment, abritant aujourd’hui le presbytère et la mairie, et prolongé par l'abbatiale dédiée à Notre-Dame de Paimpont. Fondée au 7e siècle, l’abbaye, qui n’est à l’époque qu’un modeste prieuré, est détruite au 9e siècle lors des invasions normandes. A la fin du 11e siècle, on reconstruit une église romane ; c’est de cette époque que datent les murs les plus anciens (façade ouest, contreforts). Au 13e siècle, l’église romane est transformée dans le style gothique. HYDRANGEAS AND OLD STONES. In the heart of the Brocéliande forest, located at the Paimpont lake, the abbey forms a rather imposing architectural ensemble composed mainly of a large building, now housing the presbytery and the town hall, and extended by the abbey church dedicated to Notre-Dame de Paimpont. Founded in the 7th century, the abbey, which was then only a modest priory, was destroyed in the 9th century during the Norman invasions. At the end of the 11th century, a Romanesque church was rebuilt; It is from this period that date the oldest walls (west facade, buttresses). In the 13th century, the Romanesque church was transformed into the Gothic style. HORTENSIEN UND ALTE STEINE. Die im 7. Jh. gegründete Abtei, die damals nur ein bescheidenes Priorat war, wurde im 9. Jh. während der normannischen Invasionen zerstört. Ende des 11. Jh. wurde eine romanische Kirche wieder aufgebaut; aus dieser Zeit stammen die ältesten Mauern (Westfassade, Strebepfeiler). Im 13. Jh. wird die romanische Kirche im gotischen Stil umgebaut.

The "Roche aux Fées" (Fairies Rock) is the best-preserved dolmen in Europe, a prehistoric "colossus" measuring 19.50 m long, 6 m wide and 4 m high. Its slabs of purple schist form a covered walkway. This type of burial was widespread in the 3rd millennium BC, around 5000 years ago. The particularity of this monument is expressed during the winter solstice, the shortest day of the year, on 21 December, when the first ray of sun rises opposite the entrance to the dolmen. It is said that the fairies built this monument in one night to prove their existence, and that it guarantees the happiness of lovers who count the same number of stones... MYSTÉRIEUSE ET INSPRIANTE... La "Roche aux Fées" est le dolmen le mieux préservé d’Europe, c'est un "colosse" de la Préhistoire mesurant 19,50 m de long, 6 m de large et 4 m de haut. Les dalles de schiste pourpre qui le composent dessinent une allée couverte. Un type de sépulture répandu au 3e millénaire avant J.C, il y a environ 5000 ans. La particularité de ce monument s’exprime durant le solstice d’hiver, le jour le plus court de l’année, le 21 décembre, où le premier rayon du soleil se lève face à l’entrée du Dolmen. Il se dit que les fées ont construit ce monument en une nuit pour prouver leur existence, et qu’il garantit le bonheur des amoureux qui comptent le même nombre de pierres... Es handelt sich um einen "Koloss" aus der Vorgeschichte, der 19,50 m lang, 6 m breit und 4 m hoch ist. Die Platten aus purpurrotem Schiefer, aus denen er besteht, zeichnen einen überdachten Gang nach. Diese Art der Bestattung war im 3. Jahrtausend v. Chr., also vor etwa 5000 Jahren, weit verbreitet. Die Besonderheit dieses Denkmals kommt während der Wintersonnenwende, dem kürzesten Tag des Jahres, am 21. Dezember zum Ausdruck, wenn der erste Sonnenstrahl gegenüber dem Eingang des Dolmens aufgeht. Man sagt, dass Feen dieses Denkmal in einer Nacht errichtet haben, um ihre Existenz zu beweisen, und dass es das Glück von Liebenden garantiert, die die gleiche Anzahl an Steinen zählen...

Il est orné de deux cadrans solaires (1785) avec les citations "Unam time" (Craigniez une seule heure) et "Qua hora non putatis veniet" (Elle viendra au moment où vous ne l’attendez pas). La fontaine date de 1683. SPLENDOR OF THE FORMER TOWN HALL. The building was constructed from 1660 to 1668 under Cardinal Mazarin, who had bought the Duchy of Mayenne in 1654. It was the town hall and the palace of justice and is decorated with two sundials (1785) with the quotations "Unam time" (Be afraid of a single hour) and "Qua hora non putatis veniet" (It will come when you do not expect it). These boundary stones are monoliths made from local stone (granite, limestone or sandstone). They were used to mark out the portion of road left to be maintained by a parish. In the 1730s, this was a tax in kind in the form of work days. In spring and autumn, residents of rural areas were obliged to devote one or two weeks of free labour to the construction or maintenance of local sections of road. These milestones are set up to delimit the obligations of each parish. BORNES DE CORVEES DEVANT LE CHATEAU. Ces bornes sont des monolithes réalisées avec la pierre locale (granit, calcaire ou grès). Elles servaient à délimiter la portion de route laissée à l'entretien d'une paroisse. Dans les années 1730, c'est un impôt en nature qui se présente sous la forme de journées de travail. Au printemps et à l’automne, les habitants des zones rurales ont l'obligation de consacrer 1 à 2 semaines de travail gratuit à la construction ou à l’entretien de tronçons de route au niveau local. Ces bornes sont implantées afin de délimiter les obligations de chaque paroisse. "STRAFARBEIT"-GRENZSTEINE VOR DER BURG. Diese Grenzsteine sind aus örtlichem Stein (Granit, Kalkstein oder Sandstein) gefertigte Monolithen. Sie dienten dazu, den Teil der Strasse abzugrenzen, der dem Unterhalt einer Gemeinde überlassen wurde. In den 1730er Jahren war es eine Sachsteuer, die in Form von Arbeitstagen erhoben wurde. Im Frühjahr und Herbst waren die Bewohner ländlicher Gebiete verpflichtet, 1 bis 2 Wochen unentgeltlich für den Bau oder die Instandhaltung von Strassenabschnitten auf lokaler Ebene zu arbeiten. Diese Grenzsteine wurden aufgestellt, um die Pflichten der einzelnen Gemeinden abzugrenzen.

L'Eglise Saint-Mathurin des XVIème et XVIIIème siècles faisait face aux halles. Leur démolition impose la reconstruction de la façade (1765 à 1786). L'église dispose d'un des plus beaux ensembles de vitraux de Bretagne (6 vitraux classés du XVIe s.) PIPs : des façades pittoresques autour de cette place du marché. SUMMER IMPRESSIONS. The Church of Saint-Mathurin, dating from the 16th and 18th centuries, faced the covered market. Their demolition meant that the façade had to be rebuilt between 1765 and 1786. The church has one of the finest sets of stained glass windows in Brittany (6 listed 16th-century windows). PIPs: picturesque facades around this market square. SOMMERLICHE EINDRÜCKE. Die Kirche Saint-Mathurin aus dem 16. und 18. Jh. lag gegenüber den Markthallen, deren Abriss den Wiederaufbau der Fassade erforderlich machte (von 1765 -1786). Die Kirche verfügt über eine der schönsten Gruppen von Kirchenfenstern der Bretagne (6 klassifizierte Glasmalereien aus dem 16. Jh.). PIPs: malerische Fassaden rund um diesen Marktplatz.

Access to the city was through two large gates. This 15th-century postern was built into the northern ramparts to link the town to the suburbs and the road that separated them. LA POTERNE SAINT-JEAN. On accédait à la cité en passant par deux grandes portes. Cette poterne du XVe siècle est aménagée dans le rempart nord afin de relier la ville aux faubourgs et à la route qui les sépare. DIE AUSFALLPFORTE SAINT-JEAN. Der Zugang zur Stadt erfolgte durch zwei grosse Tore. Diese Pforte aus dem 15. Jh. wurde in die nördliche Stadtmauer eingebaut, um die Stadt mit den Vororten und der Strasse, die sie trennte, zu verbinden.
