World Photography Day 2025

For 19 August, I looked for a subject that would bring joy to those who see it. I thought of the little street cafés in our villages: you want to sit down there and have a drink. This café is located on the market square, in front of which since 1982 there has been a fountain made of red Armorican sandstone from the nearby quarry. Due to the drought, the water is not flowing now.

JOURNEE MONDIALE DE LA PHOTOGRAPHIE 2025. Pour le 19 août, j'ai cherché un sujet qui pourrait donner de la joie en le regardant. J'ai pensé aux petits cafés avec terrasse dans nos villages: on a envie de s'y installer pour boire un verre. Ce café-ci se trouve sur la place du marché, devant se trouve depuis 1982 une fontaine en grès armoricain rouge de la carrière voisine. Etant donné la sécheresse, l'eau ne coule plus actuellement.

WELTFOTOGRAFIETAG 2025. Für den 19. August habe ich nach einem Motiv gesucht, das beim Betrachten Freude bereitet. Ich dachte an die kleinen Strassencafés : man hat Lust sich dort hinzusetzen und etwas zu trinken. Dieses Café befindet sich auf dem Marktplatz, vor dem seit 1982 ein Brunnen aus rotem armorikanischem Sandstein aus dem benachbarten Steinbruch steht. Aufgrund der Trockenheit fliesst derzeit kein Wasser.

Two charming and delightful images Christa. The fountain is very unusual and I love how the light turns the red sandstone to gold. The little cafe is bright and cheerful and welcoming. It does make you want to sit and enjoy a coffee here.

Thanks Carol. It's really a nice place, and sometimes after running errands, I go there for a coffee and often meet up friends. Many British people also like to go there, which allows me to speak English with them. The fountain was created by a local artist using red sandstone from the region.Have a nice day.

Normally the water in these fountains are re-circulated, hence stopping it is not "a must". Only the loss is evaporation , which can be negligible!!

What a great thought for World Photography Day. And indeed I quite enjoy this photo. The sandstone fountain is so gorgeous, and I'd love to sit in the cafe with you *smile* (guess it will have to be virtual). Your perspective here is really nice, 'framing' the cafe with the fountain.

Thanks Laura. I come here regularly for a drink with friends – and you would be very welcome;-)) But I've never taken a photo from the other side:
the place is actually surrounded by nice old houses and decorated with trees and flowers, but it's a parking lot around the fountain, so you see a lot of cars! Only on Monday (market day) it's different with all the stalls offering their products.
