1739 Epirrhoe rivata (Wood Carpet)
Geometridae, Larentiinae - Wingspan: 28-32mm.
A species which is very similar to 1738 Common Carpet, making it difficult to determine. The only difference to help identification is the outer white dual band bordering the central dark band. This band is wider, and the thin line running between the two parts not so obvious, making it look almost like a single wide white band. Other than that, both species look almost identical, particularly when fresh.
A locally distributed woodland species in Cornwall, with perhaps a bias towards the west of the county. Specimens have been seen from April to September here, but the single generation peaks in June/July.
