1714 Idaea degeneraria (Portland Ribbon Wave)

1714 Idaea degeneraria (Portland Ribbon Wave)
Geometridae, Sterrhinae - Wingspan: 26-30mm.

Classed as a Red Data Book species, it was recorded as a resident species on the Island of Portland in Dorset. Occasional specimens elsewhere along the south coast appear to be migrants from Europe. The above specimen came to a trap of a friend, Geoff Littler, near Penzance. Seventeen specimens were recorded between 2005 and 2011. Although somewhat similar to the Riband Wave Banded form, the dark area of this species is between the first and second cross lines, whereas the Riband Wave band is between the second and third cross lines.
