Karoline Tellheim by Luckhardt
Karoline Tellheim, born Bettelheim (1842-1906); Austrian soprano.
She was a cousin of the famous contralto Karoline Gomperz-Bettelheim (1845-1926). She made her debut in 1862 in Vienna at the “Carl Theater” in the operetta “Dass war ich”. From 1862 till 1871 she was associated with the “Wiener Hofoper” where she performed roles like Zerlina in Don Giovanni and Fra Diavolo, Jemmy in William Tell and Papagena in the Zauberflöte. In 1871 she returned to the “Carl Theater” and was very successful in the Offenbach operettas. She created the role of Prince Raphael in Offenbach’s Viennese première of “La Princesse de Trébizonde” (Die Prinzessin von Trapezunt) in 1871. She was also a very successful concert-singer.
